No job? No worries

Not usually the type to give deep ass advice like this: If you're lost, feel stuck and feel that the world is caving in on you, it gets better. Things happen for a reason... whether they be good or bad. There is a reason for everything. And you yourself have control over how to best navigate even the worst of situations. I recommend reading "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero. It acts sort of as a self-help book that will guide you on how to crawl yourself out of the rut you're in and refocus on living the life you most desire.

I recently quit my job. Yes, you read that correctly. Perfect explanation for the major decision was simply that I felt like I was in a rut. A deep fucking rut that if stayed in any longer, I wouldn't be able to climb out of. I loved every aspect of the job besides the insurance part. Can ya blame a bitch? So, I took matters into my own hands and had probably the most professional, honest conversation I've ever had. And fuck yes, I was practically shitting my pants thinking about the straight fact that once I sent in my resignation letter and bulky equipment, I would be jobless. Something that is absolutely looked down upon at Bentley. But fuck what my $70,000/yr. school thought, or what my friends thought or even parents. For once in my life, this was a decision I single handedly made and followed through with, no regrets. So I'll just paint a picture for you so you can understand the timeline of everything. I quit the first week of January (a great time to start fresh), and have spent the last 2 months researching companies, applying, interviewing, joining networking events and etc. etc. etc. Has it been fun? Hell no! Has it been stressful? Hell yes!

I knew what I wanted and what I didn't. I made those things explicitly clear with the companies I was interviewing with. No, I didn't have much leverage but I did have years of experience in both finance and sales... and worked for corporate companies in the Boston area. Well as said above, things did get better and as of a week ago, I am a newly employed bitch. I don't start for another 2 weeks but I have officially accepted an offer with a company called PharmaLogics in Quincy. I am doing exactly what I want to be doing. Recruiting, talking to candidates on a daily basis, networking and I will be on salary. That last lil part is the most important. Especially with Covid rearing its fucking hideous head as I began my full-time job last July, working on commission was a huge stressor and was what caused so much uncertainty in my job. So my only advice on this topic is follow your heart. If you feel off in your job and don't see growth or aren't passionate about your work, move on! You're probably wondering, "Kels, what the fuck did your ADHD ass do all day while your roommate was working?" Keep reading and you'll find out (inserts sexual wink here.)

@Koffeewithkelseyj is what I've been up to all this time! That is an instagram handle.... now pick your cracked busted phone up & follow (; Seriously though, this has been a fun little hobby/ something to keep me busy. Essentially I try a new Boston café everyday, rate the coffee and give a mini description of how the location is running during Covid times. It has been an awesome way to meet people in the area, learn of the cafe's origin story and discover new lil hole in the wall places I would've never known about before. At some point in the future, I want to use this blog to promote my favorite cafes and use this platform to share their story. I have been trying to support local artists, shops, restaurants, etc. during this crazy time. I absolutely love watching them grow and I love passing the word around about them!

If you ever have a gut feeling that something is off, it is! Quit, move on... you will be okay! Take up hobbies, start journaling, explore new spots around your town, grab drinks with new friends, paint, take time off work to travel with girlfriends, go on a date with someone new, have sex with someone new, hit the gym and work on that donk, take up cooking or baking, find new things to watch (Meghan & Harry interview for instance!) Do it all and have no regrets. Work will always be there.. it's important you take some time to focus on yourself!

As mentioned above, I've been taking this time to talk with and support small business owners.
